Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis. – Patagonia’s Mission Statement
The core of Patagonia’s company rests on making clothes for silent sports such as skiing, climbing snowboarding, surfing, fly fishing, paddling and trail running. These silent sports connect each person with nature.
Patagonia’s brand has a core commitment to the health of our environment. They are continually engaged in environmental groups worldwide. Pollution is a part of clothing production and Patagonia vows to reduce their footprint on our fragile planet.
We were impressed with two vital Patagonia campaigns:
- The Common Waters campaign is Patagonia’s passion for balancing water use on our planet with the needs of humans, plants, and animals. They will explore the reduction of their water footprint and their water use along with the cost of water in business.
- The Common Threads Initiative is a mindful collaboration between Patagonia and eBay that encourages people to reduce, repair, reuse, recycle and reimagine products. Patagonia is urging us to buy used items, to repair our used items and to resell items we are not using. Below is the Common Threads Initiative Pledge:
I’d like to become a partner in the Common Threads Initiative to reduce excess consumption and give the planet’s vital systems a rest from pollution, resource depletion and greenhouse gases.
Patagonia agrees to build useful things that last, to repair what breaks and recycle what comes to the end of its useful life. That’s why they are one of our Mindful Companies.
