April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. SAAM is the annual campaign to raise public awareness about sexual assault. Sexual assault is when a person forces, threatens, or coerces another person to commit sexual violence. One in four girls and one in six boys are sexually abused before they are 18 years old. In the U.S., one in three women and one in six men experience some form of sexual violence in their lifetime. If you are a victim of a sexual assault please don’t carry the guilt, fear, and anger inside. There are great resources to find help, get involved, or find events. Every survivor should experience compassion, a platform and an opportunity to share their experiences.
