The Birth Story of the Mindful Living Network

Long before mindfulness was a mainstream concept, it was a lifeline for our founder, Dr. Kathleen Hall.

In this deeply personal reflection (that also happens to be the birth story of the Mindful Living Network), Dr. Hall shares her evolution from a high-powered Wall Street stockbroker trapped in a chaotic, “unmindful” existence into a true pioneer of mindful living.

The Turning Point

Dr. Hall’s old reality fractured forever following a severe panic attack on her way to the 104th floor of the World Trade Center. Soon after, a chance encounter with Henry David Thoreau’s journals changed everything.

Choosing a radically different path, she left corporate success behind – moving to a primitive log cabin in the Chattahoochee National Forest—with no electricity, no running water, and no map.

The Birth of a Network

A series of intentional, grounding life experiences of Dr. Hall planted the seeds of the Mindful Living Network®:

  • Building a working farm from the ground up.
  • Working closely to aid cardiac rehab patients and at-risk teens.
  • Connecting deeply with the rhythm of local wildlife.
  • Founding a local animal rescue.

Ultimately, the Mindful Living Network officially took her first breath of life on the auspicious date of 08-08-08 at 8:08pm. She was born with the intentional purpose of sharing hard-won lessons with a world in need of healing.
