Getting stressed? Well, try relaxing for a change. With the right relaxation tips, you can improve your mental, physical, and spiritual health and wellbeing.

Relaxation changes your state of mind and physically changes your body functions by lowering your blood pressure, reducing your heart rate, quieting and restoring your busy brain. By breathing in deep and relaxed breaths, your oxygen consumption decrease, which research reports increasing sense of well-being. It also releases tension and counteracts the ill effects of stress, such as headaches, G.I. symptoms (here’s one example), anxiety, and depression.

4 Short Relaxation Tips

Take a few minutes several times during your busy day to renew and refresh your SELF. Listed below are four simple, short relaxation tips.

  1. Breathe. Inhale to the count of four, exhale to the count of four. Feel your heartbeat, and focus on slowing those beats down.
  2. Music. Listen to your favorite relaxing music for a few minutes. Block out all thoughts and sounds that would cause you stress.
  3. Take a mind vacation. Close your eyes and imagine you are in the most relaxing place you know and that you love. How does it smell, taste, sound, and feel?
  4. Inspiration. Read a short inspirational saying slowly and absorb the healing words. Feel the stress leave your body.
