Today is International Day of Disabled Persons.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been recognized by the United Nations since 1992.
A Day of Justice and Awareness
People with disabilities are at higher risk of “violence including stigma, discrimination, and ignorance.” Plus, a study from the American Psychological Association showed that 33 percent of adults with disabilities had extreme levels of stress. Also, there’s often a lack of social support for disabled people and their caregivers as well.
Since roughly 15 percent of the world’s population is living with a disability, it’s time that we all made a change. Today, learn more about the International Day of Persons with Disabilities here.
