Be Your Own Cheerleader

Ups and downs are a part of life and it’s during the tough times work troubles, relationship problems, etc.—that we need help the most. Most of us have that one family member, friend, coworker, or mentor who can lift us up and keep us going. But what if you’re facing your troubles alone? Or what if you have all the love and support you could ask for but it’s not enough? The solution is you. You have to be your biggest cheerleader in the best and worst of times and these tips can help.

Treat Yourself the Way You Would Treat Others

One of the important parts of being your own cheerleader is simply being kind to yourself. Often times we are more understanding and encouraging to others than we are to ourselves. We have inspirational words when our friends are depressed, but have nothing but harsh critiques for our own issues. It’s important to remember that you deserve compassion too.

So, cheer yourself the way you would cheer on your loved ones. When you’re having a moment of doubt or anxiety, ask yourself, “What would I say to my sister (mother, friend, or coworker) if they were in this situation?” With all the mindful kindness you put out in the world it’s important to save some for yourself!

Give Yourself a Pep Talk

The best cheerleaders give best pep talks—reminding us how far we’ve come while encouraging us to keep going. Giving ourselves a pep talk can be awkward and uncomfortable, but that shouldn’t stop us. When you have a moment alone, give yourself a pep talk in the mirror. If that doesn’t feel right, write a pep talk for yourself in your mindful journal.

Use Technology

Technology is a wonder. There are many apps and devices that you can use to encourage yourself. For instance, if you’re trying to motivate yourself to continue working out, get a fitness tracker. Some of these devices send you reminders about your fitness goals and they send you congratulation notifications when you achieve your goal. Another example is productivity programs. If work is overwhelming, these apps will help you stay organized and motivated. And they also send congratulation messages when you’ve achieved your goal.

Treat Yourself

When you’ve accomplished something, no matter how small it is, remember to treat yourself. When you celebrate your success it refreshes you and encourages you to keep striving during the dark times. Your treat doesn’t have to be big. An expensive cup of coffee or a trip to the movies can make all the difference.

Practice Self-Love

Being your own cheerleader takes self-love. Unfortunately many people struggle with this. If you could use some help, try these Mindful tips.
