Bears of the LIBEARTY Bear Sanctuary in Romania

Libearty Bear Sanctuary

Welcome to the LIBEARTY bear sanctuary, the largest animal welfare project in Europe! They have rescued over 125 bears. The Zărnești Bear Sanctuary has 69 hectares of oak forest, with trees where the bears can climb, swimming pools where they can splash and lots of food.

Where is this and what animals can I see?

This live stream shows the wilderness in the historical region of Transylvania, in central Romania. It is located in the Harghita Mountains of Romaina. Watch for a few minutes and you’re sure to see wild Brown Bears coming into a food station. The food station is filled periodically to keep everyone happy. You can also see  red deer, roe deer, wild boar, fox, rabbit, wolf and many other wild animals.

LIBEARTY Sanctuary’s History

The story of the bear sanctuary begins in 2005, when the Millions of Friends Association signed a public-private partnership with the Town Hall of Zărneşti, through which they received a 49 years concession for the necessary land to build the “Libearty” sanctuary.

WAP (World Animal Protection) joined these efforts in the “Save the Captive Bear” Project – the largest project in Europe for the rescue, care and welfare of the brown bear. You can learn more about this wonderful place on the MillionsofFriends website
