
This day was created to “raise awareness with the general public and decision-makers.” While we have observant holidays for health conditions such as breast cancer and heart health, there are thousands of rare health conditions that are often overlooked by the public.
In the U.S., a disease is classified as rare if it affects fewer than 200,000 Americans. There currently over 7,000 rare diseases and disorders in the U.S. These diseases affect over 30 million Americans and more than half of the affected are children. Want to learn more? Click here.
