Malala Yousafzai: Symbol of Courage

Malala Yousafzai is a beautiful, bright, passionate young girl who created a blog writing about how the Taliban extremists were terrorizing girls and women in Pakistan.  Her young voice brought a young, fresh, authentic perspective on the oppression of women her society. Her dream was not unlike so many young women and girls in Pakistan, to get an education.

This month, last year, Malala was viciously shot. Miraculously, she survived. Recently, she was nominated at 16-years old for a Nobel Peace Prize. Although she did not win the award, this was an incredible honor for such a brave young woman! Instead, Malala  Yousafzai was named as the winner of the EU’s Sakharov prize, an award considered Europe’s top human rights accolade.

I love Malala Yousafzai and hold her soul in my heart today. She is the symbol of a pure, authentic voice who experienced horrible injustice and found her own voice in the midst of such oppression.
