National Hummingbird Day

Did you know that a hummingbird’s wings beat 60-80 times per second? Or that they feed every 10 to 15 minutes, and visit over a 1,000 flowers per day. A hummingbird represents joy in the Native American cultures and gets its name because you can hear their wings hum when they move fast.

For National Hummingbird Day, spend time today reading up on these magnificent birds. Put up a hummingbird feeder on your porch. You can buy hummingbird nectar in the store or you can easily make your own at home using sugar and water. Experience pure joy through bird watching!
