National Waffle Day

Today is National Waffle Day. It honors the day that the U.S. patent for the waffle iron was first issued. The stove-top waffle iron was the brainchild of Cornelius Swarthout from Troy, New York. Even though waffles were invented in the 1300s, Swarthout’s waffle iron added a handle and a clasp that allowed for flipping. Let’s celebrate this invention with some homemade treats!

Some people aren’t big fans of sweets; thus, they are not big fans of waffles. But there are so many savory waffle recipes you can try. For breakfast, try sweet potato waffles with sliced avocado and a fried egg. Or for dinner, have spinach, potato, and feta cheese waffles. They’re delicious!
